I am helping plan the 7th Annual Queer Pin@y Conference at UC Berkeley. I just launched the website and you can register now online! We are also accepting workshop proposals and artist submissions for our very first QPC Art Gallery.
Please come if you can. This will be an event to stimulate your senses, spirit, and consciousness. The last time the event was in the Bay Area was in 2005 and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Be part of the conference and community-building this year:

Lonnie Carter’s play The Romance of Magno Rubio, starring the 2007 New York cast (including Prince Charming himself, Paolo Montalban), will be showing this month October 4-5 in Stockton and October 9-12 in San Bruno.
The play is based off of a Carlos Bulosan short story by the same name, and tells the story of Filipino immigrant life in the 1930s.
This Wednesday, October 1, a panel discussion about Carlos Bulosan’s work will take place at the SF Library, featuring UC Berkeley lecturer, Dr. Joi Barrios, and will feature a performance by the cast of the play. Check out the event, and visit www.littlemanila.net for full details on play dates and tickets. (more…)

The San Jose Mercury news reported earlier this week that a majority of Santa Clara residents speak a language other than English at home.
Numbers are catching up to the lived reality of former ESL kids like me who grow up with a language that isn’t English. We are no longer the exception. This is the changing face of America.

Washington Mutual just collapsed, signaling the largest bank failure in American history.
The congressional talks over the multi-billion dollar bailout plan imploded last night, leaving the plan still floating in the ether.

Ripped from DailyKos:
Remember when kos asked:
I want to know why $700 billion. Why not $100 billion, with Treasury going back to Congress when/if it needs more? Why $700 billion?
Well, now we know:
“It’s not based on any particular data point,” a Treasury spokeswoman told Forbes.com Tuesday. “We just wanted to choose a really large number.”
